Blast from the past.....

Well, today has been thin with tweets, if only because the right wing twittersphere is going all gaga for Senator Ted "I'm really Canadian" Cruz and his FAUXLIBUSTER........really? did anyone actually think it would do anything and.....are we the only one's who found it odd that Cruz was fauxlibustering a bill he supported?  Strange days indeed.  Sadly, this distraction left little in the way of fodder for today so, pickings were slim......but tomorrow is another day.

With that in mind, allow us to share with you a bit of "OLD" hat as it were.  So old in fact that it comes all the way from 1755.  That was the year the quote tweeted by Bryan "Lyin' Fissure" Fischer originated.  It was a quote by the first Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, John Marshall.  To be sure, the quote is valid and authentic, for the 18th century......which is approximately the time period to which Fischer lives in his mind but, is it valid and authentic today? Short answer: NO.  What makes this an odd quote is that it also betrays the reality of the time it was written.  In 1755, there were hundreds of thousands of non-Christians within America, Native Americans and Slaves to name two of the largest populations.  Of course, we have no illusions about what Marshall meant when he said 'American population': he meant white. Fischer is of the same mind, only whites matter: Straight, White, Heterosexual and Christian, they are all that matter. The rest of us are merely "the other", unclean and undeserving of respect or life for that matter. It's odd really, that Fischer would have to reach 3 centuries back to find a quote from member of the SCOTUS which jives with his myopic view of the world.  It's not 1755 Bryan, it's 2013......deal with it and please, see a doctor about your condition, it's becoming more and more acute.
